Overview of curriculum

The MIF curriculum is designed to provide students with strong understanding of the fundamentals of financial theory and practice. You are given flexibility to customize yourcoursework to meet career and personal goals. Two tracks are provided a thesis track and non-thesis track.

Pre-courses: Getting you up to speed in class

The purpose of our pre-course sessions is to provide students with no prior background a refresher course in mathematics, statistics, accounting, and economics. Depending on your undergraduate degree and work experience, the academic advisor will determine what courses you are required to take or be exempted.

Core courses: What every finance professional should know.

There are a total of 10 core classes accounting for 28 credits. The objective of core classes is to provide you with a solid conceptual and practical foundation in financial accounting, micro and macroeconomics, corporate finance, investments, and research methods.

Elective courses: Tailoring your learning experience to a specific area

Electives titled selected and special topics in finance may vary providing flexibility for faculty to introduce new issues of current interest in finance. Topics have also varied to suit student area focus such as topics in corporate governance, structured products, Asian capital markets, or hedge fund management.

Non-thesis track

The non-thesis track prepares you for a variety of jobs in finance. Students are required to complete an independent study and a comprehensive exam before graduation.
